Nerja, on the Costa del Sol, is 50 kms. east of Malaga ( a 45 minute drive on the autovia to the airport ). There have been settlements here for over 20,000 years as evidenced by the local cave paintings.
A few years ago we sold a villa, in the grounds of which the owner discovered a wonderful collection of Phoenician jewellery. |

Once a sleepy fishing village, the town has developed and extended but is is unmistakably andalucian with restaurants, café bars, shops, narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums. The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcón de Europa. a magnificent promenade with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below. The 17th century Church of El Salvador opens onto the Balcon and our office is alongside.
One of the great attractions of the area is the weather. The residents in Nerja boast that the area has the best climate
in Europe. In the summer it´s usually around 30º C and in the winter around 20ªC with lots of sun.
This January ( 2005 ) the sea temperture was 14ºC which compares with the U.K. summer sea temperature of 12ºC.
It´s usual to see people sunbathing on the beaches for about 9 months of the year. Perhaps it is the best climate !

In the mountains above Nerja is the beautiful and historic whitewashed village of Frigiliana. This was the site of numerous battles culminating in the famous battle of the Rock of Frigiliana in 1569, which ended with the expulsion of the Moorish people.
The town has a very good range of amenities and its own fiestas, concerts, carnivals and religious celebrations. They even run Bulls through the narrow streets in June ! |

The other towns and villages of this region all have their own appeal and story. Most importantly is Granada with the world famous Alhambra. Malaga also is city not to be missed.
Golf is a major sport in Spain with several established courses nearby and others currently under development. See our separate section for more details.
If you are here in the winter you can ski in Sierra Nevada with the slopes within a 2 hour drive. We are often asked about Schools and within the firm we have a good knowledge and experience of both the Spanish and International schools available. See our separate section for school contact details.
We have given you a snapshot of the region and we will be delighted to tell you more and to help you discover and enjoy this wonderful area. We are always available to meet and chat over a cup of coffee in the sunshine, which we enjoy all year round. |
